Who I am, and why this site?

Me, in front of a SODAR (SOund Ranging And Detection)

My name (you could have guessed it already) is Patrizia Favaron.

I have a degree in applied mathematics (quite long ago, 1987), preceded by a volunteer internship in theoretical ecology from my last two high school years to 1988 (a gift of my sciences teacher - one of the prominent "goddesses" in my life).

From 1987 to 1992 I did win my bread as automation engineer, with a penchant for thermoelectric power plants; in 1992 I dealt with testing computer (actually, micro-controller) based systems to be used in safety critical applications.

Then in 1996 I switched to Servizi Territorio srl, of which I'm one of its two owners and CEOs; there, I'm in charge of research and development.

Research interests

I work as an engineer, and academics isn't my primary occupation. However, I need to remain in touch with the fast-changing technology and applications. And you couldn't, if you do not devote part of your time to study. And, research too.

I'm currently active in the following fields:

  • Planetary Boundary Layer physics.

  • Atmospheric pollutant dispersion modeling.

  • Embedded systems development.

Other activities

I'm a registered UAV operator, and operate drone flights in the context of micro-meteorological site characterization and station scouting.

My little and very effective drone has many other uses too, from building and crop inspection to mapping.

I perform this activity as a freelance. If you need my help, you could send me a message using this site's contact page.

Being in this World

I strongly believe in the advancement in STEM of girls and women. And yes, I strongly believe in equality and value of people, whatever their gender, or ethnicity, or religious / philosophical / political wishes, or whatever category we may invent.

I know we women can give a perspective which is unlike the usual one: of care, attention to detail, pragmaticism, willingness to cooperate, selflessness. We value, in the same time, style and ethics. And, we understand, comprehend and value differences among individuals. All things so much needed in this belligerent, individualistic World.

As the IEEE WIE motto states, "I'm an engineer, I change the World". That's true: we change the World, we want it or not. I strive for this change to be in a direction of improving life conditions for we humans and the many "You" making out what we call "environment". For now, and the future.
